High Sierra 2230-Cubic Inches Swerve Daypack (Plum, Whimsy Plaid)

High Sierra 2230-Cubic Inches Swerve Daypack (Plum, Whimsy Plaid) – $90.00

cubic inchesI really wanted to like this bag. I got the Charcoal/Chipotle/Black one and it’s pretty nice. It has lots of pockets, which could border on too many for some users. I sometimes forget which of the pockets hold my stuff. The zippers are nice, and just big enough to grasp and pull easily.

Besides all the compartments, there are lots of smaller pockets. The very first compartment can hold all your knickknacks. It has pen/pencil holders, zippered pockets, non-zippered pockets, “velcroed” pockets…you get the idea.

The second compartment has a mini pocket up top designed for an mp3 player. Above that pocket is even a port to push a headphone jack so you can listen to your tunes as you walk.

There is a tiny soft-lined pocket at the very top that I normally use to store things like my camera, phone and mp3 player i.e. things I don’t want scratched. That’s one of the things I like most about the bag.

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th compartments are great for books with lots of room. However the fourth compartment held a surprise laptop pocket complete with a strap and buckle. I didn’t have a laptop at the time I bought this, but now that I own one, I’m really happy it’s there.

The straps are nice and wide also, making it easier to carry around on your back.

The ONLY thing I do not like about this backpack is that “Vapel mesh” that they added to the back. That thing has caused trauma to my polos and t-shirts you would not believe. Every polo and T-shirt I wear with this has caused the fabric to twill BADLY. I’ve never had clothes damaged by a backpack like this has. And for this reason, and this reason alone, I wish I never bought this bag. No one else has mentioned this problem, so it may well be only me.

High Sierra Loop Backpack (Black/Charcoal) Best price!

High Sierra Loop Backpack (Black/Charcoal) – $70.00

high sierraThe qualities I look for in a backpack are durability and usefulness (usually size, practicality, etc…). This pack meet all those expectations. It is a backpack that would be equally comfortable on a long 7-8 hour hike or a 10 minute walk to class. With adjustable bands essentially everywhere, it is easy to limit the ‘bulkiness’ of the pack itself.

The bag feels surprising large for the specified volume, but also weighs very little when empty. The cushioning all over the straps provides a soft touch. One thing that I didn’t like is the feel/texture of the padding on the back. It feels like padding that has been covered up by a cheap plastic. Fortunately, the yoke shaped harness transfers most of the load on your shoulders and away from the back.

Durability wise, I cannot yet make a definite statement, but it seems to be extremely well built. The stitching looks to be good at every joint, and under heavy loads, there doesnt seem to be too big of an issue with the stitches stretching.

Overall, this was an excellent buy, and I plan on using it for years to come.

Jansport Superbreak Backpack (White/Black Cosmo Zebra/Prmpur)

Jansport Superbreak Backpack (White/Black Cosmo Zebra/Prmpur) – $40.00

backpackI love this bag because it is light and roomy. However after laying it on the concrete a few times, it has 2 small holes at the bottom because the bag is so thin. I got my money’s worth, but will look for something with a leather bottom if you lay your bag on the ground at all.

About Wenzel
Established in 1887, Wenzel’s mission is to help families experience the outdoors and get away from the constant noise of modern culture. That’s why Wenzel runs every product it creates through a very specialized filter–the families of Wenzel employees. Rather than obsessing over PowerPoint presentations and boardroom discussions, Wenzel focuses on the things that families care about: tents that are easy to set up and take down; sleeping bags that unroll into warm, roomy cocoons but also roll up compactly; and camp pads that smooth out the rough forest floor. At the core of Wenzel’s products is a commitment to ease and comfort, because “roughing it” shouldn’t mean shivering through the night or waking up with a stiff back.

Coleman Oak Point Large Cool-Weather Sleeping Bag

Coleman Oak Point Large Cool-Weather Sleeping Bag – $58.99

sleeping bagOther reviewer said it doesn’t roll up. It rolls up fine, it has a built in bag type thing sewn on the bottom. I dont know what he meant because even if you can’t roll it tight it doesn’t matter, you just get it as tight as you can, rap the flap around and tie the 2 strings. Even has built in nylon handle to carry it. I have not used this in cold weather yet but when I do I will update the review. I did lay in it and it is good size and has one small pocket inside for cellphone or wallet. The zipper zips good. Pretty sure this bag is the replacement to the very popular ‘coleman colossal’ bag. One difference I noticed is this uses ‘coletherm insulation’ while the colossal used ‘Hollofil-808 insulation’ Both carry a 5 YEAR warrenty. The colossal looks a little thicker in the pictures but I never owned one so I cant be sure. I did own one of the coleman bags with the cotton outside for many years that my grandfather gave me. Back then they seemed like they used a ‘tougher’ cotton on the outside but maybe its because this bag is still new. I want to add that I bought the very popular Teton Sports Celsius XL bag off amazon and did not care for it. The outside is very slippery like a bubble jacket and prown to ripping. Also if its hot and you try to sleep on top of that bag you will sweat bad. Not with this one.

Update–used it all this winter in my 18wheeler and it worked good. Wouldn’t use it in weather below like 45* F, the storage flap has proved to be slightly annoying like the other reviewer said but I haven’t cut it off yet. The zipper has snagged only a few times. Changing my score from a 5 to 4 star because the outside cotton is not as tough as the older bag I had, its cheaper material. Amazon has lowered the price to 35$ now. for that price it might be a 5star. Not a big selection of oversized sleeping bags.
